Grinling Gibbons (1648-1721) restoration-era sculptor and wood carver, often described as “England’s finest wood carver”. Adopted by Charles II he soon became known as “The King’s Carver” celebrated for his exquisite work at St Paul’s Cathedral, Hampton Court and other public buildings in and around London.
